What is VO₂ max?

The most precise measure of fitness.

VO₂ max — maximal oxygen uptake — tells you how much oxygen your body can take up and use during maximal effort. The higher the number, the better your fitness.

Unlike estimates from watches and apps, we measure your oxygen uptake directly, with a mask on a treadmill. That gives you a number you can trust — and measure progress against.

What you get:

  • Direct measurement of maximal oxygen uptake
  • A concrete number that can be compared over time
  • Detailed report and review with a specialist
  • Concrete recommendations for further training

One test — several options

Three ways to use the test.

The VO₂ max test can be carried out as a stand-alone analysis, or as part of a long-term follow-up programme.

How the test works

Four steps — about 60 minutes.

A specialist takes you through the whole process — from consultation to testing and a concrete plan. You leave with numbers, not guesswork.

Initial consultation

You meet one of our specialists. We go through your background, goals and what you want to get out of the test.

Warm-up and mask

You put on the test mask and warm up on the treadmill while we calibrate the measurements.

Test to max

The load increases gradually until you reach maximal effort. We measure your oxygen uptake directly, all the way.

Review of results

The numbers are turned into a readable report. We explain what they mean — and what you should do next.

How to use the insight?

From numbers to action.

The test gives fact-based insight that helps you get to know your own body and capacity better.

  • The result gives a clear indication of how you should plan your training in the long term.
  • Our specialists get a solid basis for tailoring training and follow-up.
  • With a test before and after a training period, you track your progress in numbers — not just in how you feel.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is a VO₂ max test?

A VO₂ max test measures maximal oxygen uptake — how much oxygen your body can take up and use during maximal effort. It is considered the most precise measure of fitness, and gives a concrete number that can be compared over time.

How does the test work?

You run on a treadmill wearing a mask that measures your breathing directly. The load increases gradually until you reach maximal effort. A specialist follows you throughout the test and adapts it to your level.

How long does it take?

Allow about 60 minutes in total, including the initial consultation, warm-up, the test itself and a short review of the results.

What do I get after the test?

A concrete number for your maximal oxygen uptake, a detailed report and a consultation where we explain what the results mean — and what you should prioritise next.

Do I need to be fit to take the test?

No. The test is just as relevant if you want to get started as if you train a lot. It gives a safe and precise starting point whatever your level.

Why two tests — before and after?

With one test before and one after a training period, you see real progress in numbers, not just in how you feel. That makes it easier to adjust your training along the way.

How do I prepare?

Avoid large meals in the 1–2 hours before your appointment, drink water as normal and avoid hard training on the same day. Come in training clothes and trainers. For a re-test, conditions should be as similar as possible each time.

What's the difference between a VO₂ max test and the 360° Scan?

The VO₂ max test measures fitness precisely, with a mask and direct measurement on a treadmill. The 360° Scan is a broader health assessment that also covers strength, mobility, balance, cognitive abilities and body composition. With Precision Premium you get both.
